Thanks to the support of the MLSE Foundation’s Community Action Grant, our program is completely FREE to all registrants! Join us this summer at one of three program options at two sites: Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre and Toronto City Sports Centre.

Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre – Morningside Athletic Fields (875 Morningside Avenue): Thanks to the support of the University of Toronto Scarborough, Department of Athletics & Recreation, our Built to Play Program will run twice a week at the Morningside Athletic Fields (the field furthest from the gate). Parking is free for the first two hours at the Toronto Pan AM Sports Centre; it is $3.00 if over 2 hours.

The field is also accessible by public transit: the 116 Morningside Bus, the 95 York Mills, and the 38 Highland Creek all have stops close by.

Toronto City Sports Centre: We’re excited to be hosting our Tuesday night program at the Toronto City Sports Centre at 32 Curity Avenue in East York. Just off of O’Connor Drive, the Toronto City Sports Centre outdoor field offers free parking. The field is also accessible by public transit:

Registration Details: Are you looking to register a young girl in your life that is younger than 6 years old? Contact us and we can do our best to make accommodations!

NOTE: the program will take place on grass and we encourage all participants to wear running shoes or cleats. If you do not own cleats, please let us know as we have a small inventory of donated cleats that we would love to give away to a girl in need!

HOW OUR PROGRAM WORKS:

Each session will start with a group welcome and warm-up, followed by 2-3 activities/drills, a scrimmage, and a cool down. Each session will also end with a post-session snack for each participant and a team cheer.

WHY IS THIS PROGRAM FREE?

To align with our organizations mission, vision and values, this program is completely free for all participants. This is very much thanks to the support of the MLSE Foundation’s Community Action Grant. We do ask all parents/guardians to consider making a small donation if possible. Any type of funding helps support our programming for future programs, our coaches development, and snacks for all; however, we completely understand if a free program is much more accessible and welcome all to register in whatever manner they are able to!

More about Girls & Women in Motion: Built to Move.

Girls & Women in Motion (GWIM) is a community organization created in early 2018, as a legacy of the KEEPONMOVING TO weekly girl’s program, which was run in partnership and at the Boys and Girls Club of East Scarborough. Both came to be from identifying a need for quality and accessible girls and women’s movement-based programming in Scarborough. GWIM looks to provide opportunities for girls and women of all ages to engage in movement (sport, recreation, exercise, physical activity) while breaking down barriers that hinder them from doing so. This includes striving to provide an entry point for individuals of all skill and ability levels in quality movement-based programming that is affordable and accessible

Our mission is to provide affordable and accessible movement-based opportunities to women and girls from equity-deserving and communities in East Scarborough, Malvern, and the Durham Region.

Our vision is to break down barriers surrounding women and girls in sport, physical activity and recreation through inclusive programming, accessible resources, educational and empowering initiatives, and mentorship, nation-wide.
